Beet N’ Mango Lemonade Smoothie

12 Mar

I bet you didn’t know that beets are low in calories, high in vitamin-c, folates (prevent neural tube defects in babies), glycine betaine (prevents coronary heart disease (CHD), stroke and peripheral vascular diseases), niacin, potassium, and that’s just a few totally AMAZING scientific facts to get you started on!  You didn’t know that, did you??? 😉 ..

Today I want to introduce you to an incredible immune and energy boosting smoothie that not only tastes amazing, but it’s also healthy and it’s vegan.  I was totally inspired with the idea while guzzling down my usual smoothie beverage, but then realized that there aren’t any vegetable based one’s, and they carry an excess of sugars and additives that I’m just not interested in consuming!!!  So here it is, something you probably have NOT tried before!

Beet N’ Mango Lemonade Smoothie

2 cups water
1/2 cup Agave Nectar
4 fresh Mangos (peeled & sliced)
1 tbsp Lemon zest
10 Lemons (peeled, sliced & unseeded)
3 cups cooked Beets (cubed)
1 cup of Ice
Thinly sliced beets (garnish)

In a blender, add all ingredients and blend until the mixture is of a smooth, frothy & creamy consistency.  You can add less agave if you like it tart or add more ice depending on how chilled you want your smoothie to be!  Refrigerate for an even more refreshing experience or serve immediately.

You can also use this recipe in creating the most delicious popsicles or sorbet that the entire family can enjoy!

Tropical Green Smoothie

24 Feb

I’m obsessed with fruit!  Sweet, Sour, Razzy, Chewy, Fuzzy, Juicy, whatever the taste or texture, it can add the extra zing I’m looking for to any drink, dessert or tropically inspired dish!  One of my favorite fruits is the avocado.

Not only is avocado loaded with magnesium + vitamin E + glutathione, but it is also a top food source for monosaturated fats.  No, it does not, will not, and cannot make you FAT!  This myth is completely untrue and holding you back from some serious health benefits!

Avocados are endowed with their own supply of water soluble raw fats which allow vitamins A, D, E and K which are soluble to then absorbed better when you’re eating them with avocado.  Isn’t that awesome?!  I love adding avocado into my day as I’m guaranteed to absorb five times the amount of nutrients, and I get to enjoy all the added benefits of its life giving properties.

Here’s a delicious smoothie recipe incorporating this kick-butt fruit… You’re going to love this, I promise!

Tropical Green Smoothie

2 Ripe Avocados
2 Oranges
2 Bananas
1 Cup Strawberries
Half fresh Pineapple
¼ Cup Lime Juice
1tbs of Agave
1 Cup of Ice

Halve Oranges + Pineapple leaving the skin intact and run through a juicer.  Peel Avocado & Banana, cut into Chunks + place in a Container with freshly cleaned Strawberries.  Once the Orange + Pineapple juice concoction is ready, place all ingredients inside a blender. Blend all ingredients together including the ice, agave and lime juice.  Once mixture is smooth, it’s ready to serve!  For an extra chilled experience, leave serving cups in the freezer for approx 15 minutes, and garnish with Lime + Orange slices for a tropical effect.

So now that it’s blended, served and enjoyed, be sure to come back and let me know what you thought?
